Jennifer Lopez cites reason for Ben Affleck divorce after filing to drop his last name

Jennifer Lopez has listed irreconcilable differences as the reason for her split from Ben Affleck just two years after tying the knot.

The “Jenny From the Block” hitmaker, 55, submitted the divorce papers on the second anniversary of their Georgia wedding ceremony. She listed their separation date as April 26.

The “On The Floor” singer also stated that she did not want herself nor Affleck, 52, to be awarded spousal support, per court documents obtained by Page Six.

Earlier this week, Lopez requested that the Oscar winner’s surname be dropped from her name in the divorce filing.

The singer asked a judge to change her legal name from Jennifer Lynn Affleck to Jennifer Lynn Lopez after taking the actor’s last name when they eloped in July 2022.

She previously gushed about becoming Mrs. Affleck, calling the gesture “romantic” and “traditional.”

“People are still going to call me Jennifer Lopez. But my legal name will be Mrs. Affleck because we’re joined together,” she told Vogue in November 2022.

“We’re husband and wife. I’m proud of that. I don’t think that’s a problem.”

J.Lo still admitted that the pair did not consider having Affleck change his last name to Lopez, adding that it’s “not traditional.”

“It doesn’t have any romance to it. It feels like it’s a power move, you know what I mean? I’m very much in control of my own life and destiny and feel empowered as a woman and as a person,” she said at the time.

“I can understand that people have their feelings about it, and that’s OK, too. But if you want to know how I feel about it, I just feel like it’s romantic. It still carries tradition and romance to me, and maybe I’m just that kind of girl.”

Shortly after tying the knot, the “Love Don’t Cost a Thing” singer revealed she changed her surname when she referred to herself as “Mrs. Jennifer Lynn Affleck” in her “On the JLo” newsletter in July 2022.

They reportedly didn’t have a prenup, which may lead to a battle over assets, including their $68 million Beverly Hills mansion that they put up for sale.
