Jennifer Lopez signs on play a deadly assassin in new Niki Caro-directed Netflix movie The Mother

Jennifer Lopez is teaming up with Netflix in an action feature titled The Mother.

Mulan director Niki Caro is in talks to helm the project, Deadline reported Monday.

Lopez, 51, will reportedly play a deadly female assassin in the story, which is along the lines of the Luc Besson classic The Professional.

The singing sensation plays a killer who comes out of hiding to protect the daughter she gave up years ago, while running from dangerous men, the website reports.

The screenplay was written by Lovecraft Country’s Misha Green and revised by Straight Outta Compton’s Andrea Berloff.

Lopez is co-producing the project.

Also in the works for the actress, is an adaptation of the Isabella Maldonado novel The Cipher, where she will play an FBI agent who gets involved in a serial killer’s case after he leaves clues to his murders online. That movie is also coming from Netflix.

Also in the works is rom-com Shotgun Wedding, from Lionsgate, where Lopez will star opposite Josh Duhamel, who replaced the original lead, Armie Hammer, last month amid his alleged cannibalism scandal.

The Waiting For Tonight hitmaker will also be appearing in Marry Me, another romantic comedy, opposite Owen Wilson, which is set for release on May 14.

Meanwhile, Lopez wowed with her performance at Joe Biden’s inauguration last month.

And her fiance Alex Rodriguez was bowled over by her appearance, calling it ‘iconic’.

The On the Floor hitmaker was among the artists to sing during the ceremony when President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris took office and her fiance couldn’t be more proud of her.

He shared a photo of himself and Jennifer on a private jet on their way home from the event and wrote: ‘I can’t stop thinking about Wednesday and Jen’s performance at #Inauguration2021 It was such an iconic moment — one I’ll never forget.

‘I can’t express how proud I am of her and how privileged I felt just to be in attendance. It truly was awe-inspiring and so patriotic.’
